Utilizing a personal lexicon of marks and forms, Thea Yabut aims to communicate the complexity of her identity, specifically where her race and gender converge. With drawing, she brings forth the parallel between her intersectional experience and the structure of weaving—a system of crossing threads. Textiles are a main point of reference for her work as thread may be easily translated to the drawn line. The artist considers identity as something that is continually constructed, re-worked, and layered. Thea Yabut is an artist living and working in London, Ontario. She is the Gallery Manager of DNA artspace. She has an MFA from Western University and a BFA from Alberta College of Art and Design. Recent exhibitions include Striations Over the Lattice Site at Line Gallery and Lines of Necessity at McIntosh Gallery. http://www.theayabut.com/
